artist Jane Couttie in her Mullumbimby studio. As an artist my focus is on portraying the essence of landscapes to evoke an emotional response that connects the audience with nature. These works have been inspired by time spent sketching by the sea and the surrounding landscape

artist Gerry Brown in her Mullumbimby studio Subject: Artist statement for Summer Art Show. Gerry Brown My series is called Under Water Fantasy inspired by recently sculpting and mosaicking Gloria the Rainbow Fish. I have painted colourful scenes in mixed media that Gloria would be swimming around in. I have also been inspired on a recent trip to Darwin to paint an abstract Queensland groper. Children have also been included with some fun small fish paintings.

artist Nadine Abensur:Artist Statement My parents talked about the 1940 film Fantasia, often. It had made a strong impression on them and my father loved to play and hum along to its soundtrack. And so, I found myself doing the same until at last when I was about 11 or 12, the film was shown at the cinema closest to my school. I couldn't wait and took myself there on my own, using my Tuck shop money and my bus fare to get in. To this day and just like my dad, the music plays itself in my head and it's hard for me to experience nature in any way, other than in this heightened way. So half the paintings in this show are explosively colourful and come entirely unedited from within and the other half, are me attempting to take mental snapshots, as I go about my day, so that I can go home and immediately attempt to capture something of their impact and what remains of their imprint. Nadine in her Mullumbimby kitchen.
